Challenge: The big smartphone digital divide

Smartphones are such an essential modern tool, but people with hand tremors still struggle to use them. Its form and interface are not ergonomically designed for tremoring hands, resulting in many giving up simple mobile interactions such as the smartphone camera.

Outcome:

GRYP tackles this by providing a system of collapsible and ergonomic grip attachments. With more to hold, it provides both physical and emotional stability for people with shaking hands, without any electrical assistance. This is supported by a camera UI that allows them to capture pictures from their most comfortable thumb zone area. Looking at the larger picture of accessible design, this project examines how UX can be improved beyond mere UI. (See image 1 with all the different materials)

Technology can be powerful only if it can empower everyone. As society surges ahead with technology rapidly, people with disabilities are left behind. With GRYP, the hope is to move towards inclusive technology for all
